News: Establishing Rules for Devices at Home

Device Rules at Home

Technology can be a positive part of children’s lives when clear boundaries are in place. For primary-aged children, agreed family rules help keep them safe and support healthy habits.

Things to consider at home:

  • Set clear times for device use (for example, after homework and not before bed)
  • Limit how long children spend on screens each day
  • Ensure apps, games and websites are age-appropriate
  • Use parental controls where possible
  • Keep phones, tablets and gaming devices out of bedrooms at night
  • Charge devices overnight in a shared family space
  • Encourage a balance of screen time, outdoor play, reading and family time
  • Talk openly with children about staying safe online

See the below link to gives you ways to support this and establish rules as a family. Clear, consistent rules, reviewed as children grow, help them enjoy technology safely and responsibly.
