Free School Meals Update September 2020

 from Flintshire County Council

As not all year groups will be returning to school within the first two weeks of the autumn term, you will continue to receive the free school meal award via a secure direct payment for your child(ren) for the period 1st September 2020 to 11th September 2020.

Due to this your child(ren) will not receive a free school meal on the days they attend school during this time, you will therefore need to provide your child(ren) with a packed lunch or money to purchase a lunch using the school’s preferred payment method.

From Monday 14 September, children will start receiving free school meals as normal and the direct payments will stop.

News: School Transport

School Transport September 2020

Usually by the end of summer term, parents have been notified about school transport for the following academic year and those arrangements are all in place.  However, this year we have received significantly lower applications than we would normally expect and no communications to parents have been sent about transport, due to the Covid-19 situation and the uncertainty of what will be happening as of September.

Government advice is that where possible, parents and carers are encouraged to take children to school by walking or cycling, or alternatively by private car, rather than using public transport.  We understand that this won’t be possible for some families. If a child is eligible to receive free school transport from the Council then we will make the necessary travel arrangements.

I would be grateful if you could please encourage parents to apply for school transport as soon as possible.I was hoping as a school you could include the application information on your school website, weekly newsletter or any other communication with parents you may see fit.

Parents need to apply online on the Flintshire website linked below;

News: Summer Reading Challenge

Dear All,

We would like to invite your pupils to take part in this year’s Summer Reading Challenge- Silly Squad. Silly Squad will officially launch in Wales this Friday with the launch of the online resources in Welsh.  Even though our services are not running in the normal way we would like to encourage children to join in the fun, get silly and keep reading over the summer with us.  To mark the launch there will be a special ‘Silly Hour’ on Friday afternoon where we will be sharing silly stories via our Facebook page  www.facebook.com/LlyfrgelloeddAuraLibraries/

Children can read any books they like to take part in the challenge- school books, e- books, their own books or they can order library books via our ‘Select & Collect’ service :call 01352 703750, email[email protected]or by filling in an order form via our websitewww.aura.wales/libraries

It’s really easy to join the challenge too.  Children can sign up online athttps://summerreadingchallenge.org.uk/ or they can just pop along to either Buckley, Connah’s Quay, Flint or Mold Libraries from 27thJuly to collect their Silly Squad ‘Challenge in Bag’  which contains everything they need.  Children ordering books will automatically receive a Silly Squad bag.

We would love if you could share this information with parents and children.  I have attached further information which goes into more detail about ‘Silly Squad’.

Best wishes

News: Update

Dear Parents/ Carers,

As another week draws to a close, it has been lovely to welcome back the other groups of learners into school. I would once again like to thank the staff for their continued efforts to ensure that all children have had a positive experience on their return to school. In addition to this, I would like to thank all parents and carers, who have supported the school to ensure that all procedures have been carefully followed to ensure the safety and well- being of all.

A reminder that next week we will be welcoming all groups of learners back, on specific days, but that school will close at 1pm, ( Foundation Phase) 1:15 (Years 3/ 4) and 1:30 pm (Years 5 and 6) to ensure thorough cleaning of the building ready for the next day’s groups. The hub for key worker children will close on Friday 17th July.

As you are now aware, the Minster for Education Kirsty Williams has made the announcement that all children will return to school by September 14th. Full operational guidance for this, is to be published next week. There is an expectation from WG that social distancing between the children in their class groups will be limited but that mixing between class groups is minimised and that adults still follow social distancing regulations. We will be reviewing our risk assessments and complex operational plans, following the publication of this guidance, to ensure that all pupils can be back in school safely by September 14th.

At this stage, I do not have any further information, but we will be in touch towards the end of next week, with further details about how this return to school will be organised in our school, once the WG guidance has been received.

Many thanks for your continued patience and support at this time.

R Critchell Headteacher
